2002![]() All about my Augie Augie ![]() August 16th, 2002 This is my Augie, an adorable little girl who filled a hole in our lives that we didn't even know was there. She came to us at 4:30 in the morning when Bailey woke me up barking his head off. He ran from the living room to the bedroom, jumped on the bed, off the bed, back to the living room, back to the bed, over and over saying, "Mom! Mom! Come see! Come see!" (Bill was far away in dreamland and didn't hear a thing 'til later.) So I got up and heard, "YOW! YOW! YOW! YOW!" coming from the bushes near the front porch. I thought it might be an animal that had been horribly injured so I went back in and got a flash lite, went back out and looked and sure enough, a tiny kitty. I lured it out of the bushes with some leftover chicken from dinner the nite before and scooped it up. A little girl, not injured but absolutely terrified and so incredibly skinny that she weighed not much more than a handful of feathers. I have no idea of where she came from or how she got here because she was much too young to have walked here, and it's a wonder that the coyotes didn't get her because they're out every night in the hills around our house. So Bill and I came to the conclusion that Augie was a gift and that Bailey found himself a little sister. And what a darling little treasure. She has totally captured our hearts.
![]() August 16th, 2002 When my girlfriend Laura came over to see her, Augie daintily ate dinner and then crashed contentedly in Laura's arms where she stayed all the while we ate dinner. To this day, she still loves to be cuddled up in my arms in a towel.
![]() ![]() August 17th, 2002 These photos are of Augie watching my hummingbirds on the feeders outside my kitchen window. I use the word "watching" lightly because she only watched for a minute, then her instincts kicked in full blast. The hummingbirds must know they're safe because believe it or not, they totally ignore her.
![]() August 17th, 2002 Day Two was another big day. Keeping an eye on those hummingbirds was hard work so an afternoon nap was in order. Even though it was only Day Two, she'd found the perfect spot and you can see she's totally content!
![]() ![]() August 19th, 2002 Today, as I was working on my website, it suddenly seemed awfully quiet so I got up to see what Augie had gotten into. And look! I found her curled up with Bailey in the chair in my office. As you can see, Augie is very happy to have a home and a family, and Bailey is very happy to have such a sweet little sister. ![]() August 20th, 2002 A basket is always an inviting place for an afternoon catnap ![]() August 20th, 2002 But nothing is better than Dad's chest.
![]() ![]() August 25, 2002 This was a lazy Sunday afternoon and we'd barely had Augie a week. My heart absolutely went
![]() August 27, 2002 Everyone always asks me how Bailey and Augie get along together, and I have to say it's as if they've always been together. When I gave Bailey a bath today, Augie watched the whole process from start to finish, then when I blow dried Bailey on my bed, Augie crawled up next to him as if to say, "Me too, me too!" So I blow dried them and combed them and brushed them both at the same time, and eventually Augie buried her little nose in Bailey's fur, happy and content to be together. ![]() August 29, 2002 After looking at these photos of Augie, I realized most of them are cute shots of Augie napping because that's what kittens do and they do it so sweetly. Then today I caught her exploring and she found my copper pot for the first time. What a perfect hiding place for a little kitten!
September 02, 2002This is my favorite photo of Augie. It's even been published. To Augie, this glass of iced tea was totally irresistible! After she realized the ice cubes weren't going to jump out and bite her, she amused herself for several minutes poking at them and making them bob up and down. Look at the serious expression on her face. These ice cubes are very interesting things! ![]() September 24th, 2002 Bailey always keeps me company when I'm working in my office (notice he's peeking around from the back of my chair) but Augie always wants to help. Isn't her expression priceless? ![]() December 25, 2002 Absolutely nothing is more intriguing than a new hiding place and the Christmas wrapping paper was simply irresistible. ![]() March 4th, 2004 My sweet Augie. She's a petite little kitty who loves watching everything that I do like in this photo where she's watching me make dinner. She still loves being carried endlessly around the house in my arms, and one of her favorite ![]() August 2007 This is Augie today. She's a beautiful cat with long thick silky fur and an elegant presence. |
