Remember
life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a beautiful
well-preserved body but rather an adventure in which you skid in broadside,
totally exhausted and thoroughly used up, loudly proclaiming,
"Wow!
What a ride!"

"What the hell.
You die.
Everybody dies.
So you die healthy.
So what?"

CONCERT IN HARBOR ISLANDS PENINSULA PARK

(click photos to enlarge)

This park is right on the channel at the Ventura harbor.
It's one of our favorite places to go
and a concert in the park is one of our favorite things to do.
Combine a concert and this setting ... a perfect summer day!
Dogs are welcome and there must have been 100 today.
Imagine all the happy people and all the happy dogs!

Maine Coon Cat

My first cat show ever!

So different than a dog show but just as much fun.

There are 43 different breeds (click here to see them)
and many are exotic and many are just plain beautiful
but we absolutely fell in love with the Maine Coon Cat.

This is Tinkbell, a Sphynx, and the winner of the show!

I think the difference between dogs and cats is so interesting.
When you own one of each, you realize a dog is a long way away from the first dogs who lived in the wild. A cat, however, is one teeny weeny evolutionary blip in time away from its ancestors. My Augie is just a smaller version of a Bengal tiger (at least she thinks so!).

This is our son Dave. The greatest guy you've ever want to know. He's been working out a lot lately and he really likes the look and feel of being fit. He had a friend take several photos of him and he emailed them to me and I had to share them. My Dave... I adore him.

SEPTEMBER 13 THRU 26, 2011

Just about everyone knows that Bill's been working in Vietnam every other month for the past 6 years, and his sales executive there is a darling lady named Hanh Pham. (I know you're wondering how to pronounce her name. Hanh is pronounced han with the "a" sounding like the "o" in honest, and Pham is pronounced fam with the "a" having the same "o" sound.) Bill arranged to have Hanh come to California for sales training in the California and Mexico facilities and we invited her to stay with us in our home. I loved Hanh from the moment I met her and so did everyone else including my Andi Pandi. Here are a few of my favorite photos of her trip.

September 14th — There was a Corvette show at our local park and one of the guys let Hanh "drive" his Corvette. Even tho Hanh had never seen a Corvette before much less driven one, it suits her perfectly, don't you agree?

September 18th — We had to take Hanh to our favorite restaurant, The Lazy Dog Cafe. Not only do they have great food but there's a great big outdoor patio and the best part, dogs are welcome!

September 20th — We drove Hanh to San Diego and from there, Bill and Hanh went onto Mexicali for sales training. My dad lives in San Diego so we all stayed with him. Dad and Hanh loved getting to know each other, and Hanh loved staying at his home and seeing a little more of how we live in America.

September 20th — A pretty photo of Hanh and me in my dad's rose garden. He has the most wonderful roses and with the San Diego weather and Dad's green thumb, Dad always has roses in bloom.

September 21st — The Del Coronado Hotel is one of the most famous, most photographed hotels in the world so it was very special that Hanh got to see it.

September 21st — Bill has a great eye behind the camera and this is one of my favorite photos of Hanh's whole trip. Living in Vietnam, she can touch the Pacific Ocean which they call the South China Sea, so it was very cool that she got to touch the same ocean all the way on the other side of the world!

September 21st — Hanh at La Jolla cove.

September 22nd — On our way home from San Diego we stopped to see our friends, Les and Adele, and Bill got a terrific photo of Les and Hanh.

September 25th — Our weather was beautiful while Hanh was here and she loved being on our patio as much as we do. This morning it was a little chilly so she wore her red jacket with the fur trim. Isn't she just too cute?

September 25th — No one in California loved Hanh more than Andi! Hanh had never met a dog like Andi before, and had never even held a dog before, but Andi and Hanh loved each other as soon as Hanh arrived. Very quickly Andi learned to do all of her tricks for Hanh, and understood everything Hanh said even with Hanh's Vietnamese accent. Andi would put her nose at Hanh's bedroom door every morning, waiting for Hanh to get up, and after Hanh went home, Andi searched Hanh's bedroom every day looking for her.
