Remember
life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a beautiful
well-preserved body but rather an adventure in which you skid in broadside,
totally exhausted and thoroughly used up, loudly proclaiming,
"Wow!
What a ride!"

"What the hell.
You die.
Everybody dies.
So you die healthy.
So what?"

BALD EAGLE NEST IN DECORAH, IOWA
The Most Amazing Live Webcam!

Bet you didn't know birds are my favorite animals on earth. They are, and I've been totally mesmerized watching a pair of bald eagles with two babies and one more about-to-be-hatched egg in a nest in Decorah, Iowa. My sister Carol saw a news segment about the eagles, and she told me about them and they've since caught the attention of thousands of people all over the country. Watching these birds is a phenominal experience but I'm gonna have the flattest butt in California because I'm OBSESSED watching the eggs hatch and the parents bringing prey to the nest and feeding the little ones. Check out the website . . . you'll be just as in awe as I am!

April 8th update... 3 adorable little eaglets now... must see!

This is the link to the live webcam which is managed by the Raptor Research Project. There's a 30-second ad then the camera feed is live and uninterrupted 24/7 (infrared at night) until you close the page.

The same webcam feed but I think it might have a slightly sharper image. Also, below the camera, there are interesting and informative posts by some of the eagle watchers.

PHOEBE THE HUMMINGBIRD

Phoebe's nest is in a rose bush in Irvine, California. In this photo, she's feeding her two babies who are ready to fledge at any moment. The homeowner had this fabulous webcam that I wanted to post to my website but . . .

I'd barely gotten the first photo posted when I went back to the webcam to check on the babies only to find they fledged and left a very empty, very lonely nest. This was a good lesson — don't blink when watching baby birds!

THE MOST AMAZING HUMMINGBIRD WEBCAM
AND THE MOST AMAZING STORY

Watch the webcam of Emma the Hummingbird

Emma built her nest in a wrought iron lantern in the backyard of a home in Aliso Viejo, California.

Emma has two babies of her own and is fostering a third baby who was orphaned after its nest was inadvertently cut down.

All three babies are now in Emma's nest. Look closely and you'll see that the foster baby's nest has been placed behind and to the right. A strip of a cotton receiving blanket has been wrapped around both nests to secure them together as one, and everything has been secured to the wrought iron lantern with a plastic tie. Eventually one baby will be moved into the other nest when three's company becomes a crowd.

Despite the commotion, Emma's feeding all three babies and all three babies are doing great.

Click here to watch the webcam, and click here to read this amazing story written by the homeowner herself.

FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2011

I know, this is a silly photo, but it makes me laugh.

I was tuckered out after dinner and nodded out on one of the family room sofas. Even tho I was sound asleep, I vaguely remember Andi climbing up and getting settled right on top of me, and that's exactly what happened and Bill captured the Kodak moment.

My lovable little Andi. When I say she never leaves me, I really mean she never leaves me.

SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2011

My butt is getting wider and flatter by the day because I keep finding more and more nesting bird webcams, and it's getting harder and harder to pull myself from away watching the eggs hatch and the babies get fed and grow up. Here are my favorites. Take a moment and take a peek. (Scroll down to read more about the first webcams I found. The stories and photos are incredible!)

PHOEBE THE HUMMINGBIRD
IS NESTING AGAIN

Phoebe's last two babies fledged on April 6th (scroll down and read the story below) and she quickly settled in another one of her nests. She laid one egg about the size of a Tic Tac yesterday, and she'll probably lay one more within a few days, then in another 17 days she'll have babies again! This is going to be such fun to watch!

SATURDAY APRIL 17 THRU MONDAY APRIL 19, 2011

On Saturday, Bill and I and Andi piled in the van and drove to San Diego for the weekend. Southern California traffic can make it a miserable drive especially because I've done it a hundred times (BORE-ing) but today the weather was gorgeous and the cars actually kept moving so it was great.

Julia's birthday is coming up and I gave her an early present, a mini Cuisinart (didn't get a photo, darn!) and a pair of pink flip flops. Can you tell pink's her favorite color?

  (click photos to enlarge)

Julia's the best sister-in-law ever! She gave me a green glass wall vase, just because, and it looks so pretty in my house. While garage sale shopping, she found a hand-painted glass with a "linda with a smile" face. Click on the photo — too funny!

On Sunday after breakfast, Bill and I and Andi walked around La Jolla village and along the cliffs above the beach for two and a half hours. It was a gorgeous day and it was fun shopping and mingling with all the happy people enjoying our southern California sunshine.

Of course not really! I can't imagine anything worse!

What a fun day! We went to visit our friends, Les and Adele, who own the jewelry store Fantastik Fakes and we brought Andi with us. Andi and Les became instant friends and she hopped right up in his lap. Les wanted Andi to look at the activity outside in front of the shop and Andi took a quick peek, decided she couldn't see well enough from his lap, so she climbed right up and over the back of him. You know dogs — when they love you they think anything's ok! Be sure to look at the last photo of Les. Too funny!

THE WAYPOINT CAFE AT THE CAMARILLO AIRPORT
my new
favorite restaurant
terrific ambience and it's dog friendly too!

(click photos to enlarge)

My brother Jeff has his own plane and when he and Julia come to visit, they fly into our local Camarillo airport. The airport's retaurant has always looked like a fun place for lunch because they have a huge patio where you can watch the planes take off and land while you eat. They also have mouth-watering tri tips grilling on the barbeque and the smell is unbelievable. Plus they're dog friendly! We finally said, "Let's go!" and OMG the food is out of this world and now it's my favorite restaurant. Even Andi loved it!

SUNDAY APRIL 24 TO WEDNESDAY APRIL 27, 2011

I flew to Austin to visit my sister Carol who I adore
and never get to see enough of!
Had the BEST time, lots of girl talk and catching up.
Finally got to meet Murphy, Carol's best buddy.
What a good guy he is and what a character.
He has the most amazing eyes.
He lets you KNOW there's a little person in there.
